Now you can add a local target to your Google Adwords ad campaigns by hooking that account to yours in Google’s Local Business Center (the same as Google Maps.) This enables you to modify your location setting to include a mileage target around your local business address.
Setting Your Location As Your Address in Adwords
In the screenshot above, you can see (just barely, sorry about the resolution) that I can now use “500 W. Madison, Suite 1250, Chicago Illinois,” not just “Chicago metro area,” as the location setting for my nonprofit SCORE Chicago. In the settings on the left in white, I added both the address and a mileage target.
Linking to Your Local Business Center Account
You can check a box to choose whether or not to show that address in your Adwords Ads. If you choose this option, and you have a Local Business Center account, you can edit the setting that links the two accounts.
“With the new location extensions feature, you can make any ad more local by including your business address and a link to your website,” says Google in an email to me. “You can directly improve the performance of ads promoting your business locations, as compared to ads without location extensions.”
If you have a business serving a local market, it’s time to update your Google Adwords location setting. And don’t miss its new “Opportunities” tab, which creates a list of long-tail keywords and phrases that you might want to add to your campaigns.

I cannot believe that I did not know about this! Such a useful tool, unfortunately when I link my email with my LBC account it says 0 addresses even though there is one and has been there for quite awhile… so i had to add it manually.
Brent,
Really appreciate your stopping by to leave a comment on my blog. Since I started using the local business center, I have noticed quite a bit of traffic coming from it.
By the way, my SEO friend says get a handful of reviews from customers posted there, and that will help your ranking.

NP! Your site is very well written and provides lots of useful information! I should be thanking you!
I agree LBC has increased my business 10x over… i’m trying to figure out ways to get my listing in the “A” spot… any ideas?
Brent,
One tip my SEO friends are giving me is to get “a handful” of reviews on Google Maps/Local Business Center from third parties. Would you and other readers of this post like to support SCORE Chicago, the nonprofit I volunteer for and the reason I am running this blog, with a quick review there on my services as a SCORE Chicago counselor? http://maps.google.com/places/us/chicago/w-madison-st/500/-score-chicago.
Now if Aqualux were close, I might have my carpets cleaned, and then recommend you. But since I can’t, you’ll just have to settle for my local online marketing advice.
Let me know how it goes.
